Censorship in Iran
In a country where censorship is used very commonly, the blogging community in Iran has grown vastly. According to this article written by Nahid Siamdoust in 2005, a man by the name of Derakhshan had made a post to his blog about the claims that the former President had changed since his time in office.
His blog, which is at www.hoder.com, is blocked inside Iran by its authorities. Derakhshan had moved to Canada to restart his blog. Once there and blogging, he says that within a month, thousands of Iranian blogs were created following the start of his.
Not long after this, a crackdown in blogging by the Iranian authorities led to several arrests, and a Tehran prosecutor ordering at least 20 bloggers to be detained.
"The Web log community is one space where Iranians can be themselves. It works against hypocrisy. It can only be good for Iran" says Derakhshan. A quote from this man clearly shows why he does what he does. He feel people have a right to, and wants people to know what is going on. This article shows how countries limit the say of what their people actually can say.
