Genuine Artificial Intelligence
Today's world is ripe with technological innovation. Computers are performing tasks today, that would have been deemed impossible 20, or even 10 years ago. At the forefront of this innovation is the particular notion of Artificial Intelligence. A.I is loosely defined as the engineering of machines or computer software which is deemed intelligent.
To many, this notion may be unsettling. Just imagine, a machine that can think, observe, and react to it's surroundings? In the article Computer Machinery and Intelligence by Allen Turing he goes on to discuss the Theological objections of creating A.I. Does something which lacks a soul lose it's ability to think? Well, in my opinion a computer which is deemed intelligent is just programmed to seem intelligent. If it shows human emotion, it was programmed to do so.
At this years E3 expo, Microsoft unveiled a piece of software for their Xbox 360 platform called Milo. The demonstration can be seen here. Many consider Milo to be the most groundbreaking A.I simulation to have ever been created. Through the use of motion sensitive cameras, Milo can recognize individuals faces, moods, and even develop his own personality based on how you treat him.
A.I will continue to evolve. Whether or not, we as humans learn to embrace this innovation has yet to be determined.
