China's Internet Dictatorship
The battle of free access of information through the internet versus the ideas and beliefs and restrictions of a communist country. In the article it talks about how the Chinese government is monitoring and using the internet and technology from the western countries. They block out web sites from other countries and that they don't approve of and when certain key words are searched for those are blocked as well. If the American public thought that when their government wanted to monitor phone calls to try to weed out terrorists, they would be enrage if the American government did any of the other things the Chinese government does.
The Chinese government is basically controling all of their citizens moves when they go on the internet. It seems to me a like the government is brainwashing the entire population. But the whole concept of the internet being the most vast source of free flowing information is untrue for the people of China.
All information comes from Ma Jian's article, "China's Internet Dictatorship".
Their technical functions include blocking overseas Web sites, filtering content and key words on Web pages, monitoring email and Internet cafes, hijacking PCs, sending out viruses, and inter-connecting with the monitoring systems of the Public Security Bureaus.(Ma Jian)
