New Perspectives

The News business is not in trouble. The viewers themselves are! Now in this day and age millions of Americans and people all over the world seem to be getting information from hundreds of different sources. Now the question arises; which of these sources are credible. Individuals all over the world are using new blogging technology to distribute rough, uncensored information. Reynolds the author of We the (media) people stated, “Other bloggers have broken stories from Iraq (involving both alleged war crimes by U.S. troops and large anti-terror marches left uncovered by American media), from the Orange Revolution in Ukraine, and from Canada's government corruption scandals.” Controversial stories like this have been caught not by true journalist, but people how have the means to view and record the act first hand. Especially with the new cell phones which gives idividuals the power to capture video fotage, and digital pictures. Well, the news "business" is in trouble economically. There are cutbacks going on in almost every news room.

What you are commenting on is the rise of amateur or citizen journalism which is producing new streams of information using the powerful networks and cheaper technology now available. It is easier for "normal people" to report the news today. That is important and we need to examine the consequences.
