Myspace ruined my life. (c)
The well known, better yet, famous social networking site : Myspace.com, has definately come a long way from its beginings. The site started out as a place for rising music stars to network and promote themselves, all for free. From then to now it has extended into a full blown network for anyone who has access to the internet and is interesting in "myspacing." Myspace is now not only for music heads, it is for businesses, corporate companys, advertising agencies, and of course everyday people like me and you.
I myspace. I myspace everyday, twice a day, at minimum. And i have only been a myspace member for a couple of months. I was hooked almost immediately not only because i am a serious internet addict but also because everyone who is anyone has myspace. It is the most convenient way to keep in touch with friends and meet new friends.
Alex Williams, the author the New York Times article "Do you myspace?" grabbed my attention immediately with the first line: "It seems a hazy memory, but Keith Wilson, a spiky-haired club promoter, can recall what it was like before MySpace - about two years ago. Back then people had normal names like "Joe" or "Keith." because this is so true. There are so many people ive met thru myspace that i actually call them by their myspace names. Funny but true. Its a myspace thing.
Theres so much i can say about myspace that i can run on for days. Ultimately, i feel the most important part of this "myspace era" is that it is really soaring and doing so fast. It is a multi-million dollar creation that allows people to network for FREE.

It is nice that you are enthusiastic about Myspace. The tremendous growth of this network makes it imporant to understand. Will this become the basis of our social life in the future. Is this how we will make new friends and visit people? What happens to face to face community? Do social networking sites like Myspace and Facebook promote a healthy face to face social life? Or compete with it?
In response to Whitney: It is clear that one network does not fit all. Perhaps there will be niche networks geared towards different tastes, lifestyles, demographics.

whitney, i can clearly understand where you are coming from when you look at that side of the "myspace world." However, maybe its just me [ even though im almost positive theres at least a few ,thousand!, more than me that agree] that when you shed light on the positives of myspace and take time to look at how great it could be i think its easy to look past the harassing guys with corny names.
This myspace "era" is in fact an evolution in itself. And although it allows for social networking on the internet, one is not restricted to only that. After you becomes friends with someone on myspace thats where the face to face networking then comes to play.
Myspace doesn't mean there is no more face to face world. I dont feel like myspace or facebook even compete with face to face interaction. I just think it helps it a little bit. It makes it a bit more interesting.
As i said before i can go on about this forever. But whitney think about this, did u notice the new feature they added to facebook? Its called invite "anyone" to facebook. Anyone means facebook is clearly becoming another myspace.
