War Against Warez
Microsoft and other software tycoons war against warez is similar to Americas war on drugs and terror in three ways. One being that it is a war that will never end. Secondly its a battle they can never win, but rather only hope to slow or impede the success of the enemy. And finally you don't know exactly who your fighting. Because of the this many analyst feel that millions if not billions of dollars are being lost by software companies. David McCandless states in his article "Winter Warez", "A running scoreboard on the BSA Web site charts the industry's losses to piracy: $482 a second, $28,900 a minute, $1.7 million an hour, $41.6 million a day, $291.5 million a week." I don't agree with these numbers, I think they are exagerated. The majority of people downloading free cracked software would not have purchased the product if they couldn't download it for free. However because it is free the take the liberty of obtaining it.
