Restriction in China’s Internet

China is one of the biggest technology industries in the world along with Japan. Yet it’s access to the “World Wide Web (WWW)”, has been “guarded by Firewall” says an article posted by Ma Jian. It has said to be more protected than the Great Wall of China. People are not even allowed to publish articles on the internet because it could lead to imprisonment. To protect information from being leaked through the net, democracy parties have supervised the web to the fullest extant not allowing their citizens to enjoy freedom through the internet. The web is so protected, that everything typed online would be seen by the Public Security Bureaus.

“But once someone's fingertips touch the keyboard, the "Kitchen Table Democracy" of the Web no longer exists - he or she may find themselves stepping into a trap, because the Internet police monitor every word that is typed.”

This event has led to several arrests in the past. People like “Lin Haiyin, [who]was imprisoned for instigating subversive actions in 2000 to the recent arrest of writer Shi Tao, more than 100 independent intellectuals have been imprisoned for expressing their views.”

The web is a tool used daily by a lot of people and companies. This is one of the biggest communication systems in the world since cell phones. Therefore, by not being able to have freedom in the web just takes part of your rights. This would mean that everything said over the web most be limited and cannot be expressed freely.
