Bible Vs. Violence?
The article entitled, 'Bible Games' instead of 'Grand Theft Auto?' by Jennifer London, revealed a new wave of Christian video games that are trying to get children of all ages to move away from violent video games.
The violence in video games is believed to cause other children to act violently towards each other thereby making them a bad influence on society. Most video games like Grand Theft Auto are violent and sexually explicit, especially if a “gamer discovers how to uncover hidden sex scenes buried in the game.” Games that are violent tend to be the most popular among children and teenagers. These video games are rated “M” for mature, but these rating are not enough to prevent younger children from playing or being exposed to these games.
A company named Digital Praise has developed a new line of video games that created “an alternative for families … to find fun and entertaining games that reinforce positive images.” They have developed Christian-themed video games that are mostly sold in Christian bookstores. These video games are often played by Victoria Tolin who hates violence. She said that she “play[s] a lot of Christian video games [because] they don’t have fights. You just have to follow Jesus and pick up little crosses for points.”
Even thought their games make up less than one percent of all the video games that are out there, Digital Praise is hoping to become a successful part of the mainstream market.

You are right, these games are influencing children. It will be hard for the christian game producers to compete with the violence and sexuality of the commercial gaming world. There are also secular gaming companies that are trying to produce less-violent material as well. It is up to parents and educators to promote games that aren't so fixated on ultra-violence and gore.
