A Blog Revolution? Get a Grip.

The article entitled, "A blog revolution? Get a grip" by Tom Zeller, discussed Gawker Media, an online network blogging company and the viewpoints its publisher had about blogging.

Nick Denton, the publisher of Gawker Media, talked nonchalantly about his network blogging company. Gawker Media is an interesting company because the editors that make up this online news source reside in different areas throughout the country. For example, only half of them live in New York. There is no office where the business takes place so the only contact Denton has with his workers is through instant messenging. The editors work from home and write a minimum of 12 current event postings a day. It is recommended that they have 8 postings up by noon to keep the readers interested in the site.

Denton denies that Internet blogging is transforming the way people recieve news and chooses to believe that this is an ordinary way to make a living. However, blogging is a new trend that many Internet companies are catching on to. Nick Denton has definitely seen the effects of blogging and the revolution it has caused, even though he denies it, because why else would he expand his company and recruit new editors to join his network? He obviously knows about the rapid interests in blogging and is expanding his network to keep his readers interested in his postings.

Comments:
Denton: "The hype comes from unemployed or partially employed marketing professionals and people who never made it as journalists wanting to believe," he said. "They want to believe there's going to be this new revolution and their lives are going to be changed."

It is clear that the publisher of Gawker Media feels that the blogging revolution is a lot of "hype."

What is his point? Read the last paragraph:
"There are too many people looking at blogs as being some magic bullet for every company's marketing problem, and they're not," he added. "It's Internet media. It's just the latest iteration of Internet media."
